Riyadh has confirmed that recent Iranian attacks on Saudi Arabia's oil infrastructure hit the country's only pipeline that exports oil through Red Sea terminals.

Tehran's decision to close the Strait of Hormuz has given Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline a central role in the global flow of oil.

The pipeline, which could transport a significant portion of the kingdom's oil to international markets, extends from Saudi Arabia's oil fields in the east of the country to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, bypassing the Strait of Hormuz entirely.

The country's state news agency reported that the attack led to the loss of about 700,000 barrels of oil per day from the volume pumped through the pipeline.

"If these attacks continue, there will be supply shortages and the pace of recovery will slow, affecting the security of dependent countries and contributing to increased volatility in oil markets," the agency said.
