Russia is convincing its reluctant soldiers that "death does not exist", while Vladimir Putin's supporters claim that the invasion of Ukraine is a "holy war".

Putin's propagandists are using desperate measures, foreign media reports, to recruit more volunteers to the failed war effort. The war in Ukraine is showing no signs of ending more than two years after Putin's invasion began, and there has been a steady stream of stories about discontent in the Russian military.

State TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov made the outlandish claim that the invasion of Ukraine is a "holy war". On the other hand, the deputy of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Nikonov, said that Russia is "the embodiment of the forces of good".

"This is really a holy war that we are fighting and we must win," he said.

Artemiy Vladimirov, head priest of the Russian Orthodox Church, claims that soldiers fighting for Russia are "resurrected after being killed" in an attempt to boost motivation. The statements come days after Putin told military-industrial leaders he would guarantee victory in Ukraine. He was calling for increased efficiency to increase Russia's arsenal.
