Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded for the first time publicly on Sunday to reports of a new deal between the United States and Iran, stressing that Israel will not accept any compromise that allows Tehran to develop nuclear weapons.
In a post on the "X" platform, Netanyahu clearly stated that Iran will never have nuclear weapons,
" Iran will never have a nuclear weapon," he wrote on "X," with the post accompanied by an image that appeared to be generated by artificial intelligence, showing him and US President Donald Trump together.
The statement comes a day after a phone call between Trump and Netanyahu, amid reports of progress toward a US-Iran “memorandum of understanding.” The potential limited agreement, according to sources, aims to extend the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic.
Israel expresses deep concern that such a partial agreement does not address core national security issues: the Iranian nuclear program and the significant reserves of enriched uranium that Tehran possesses.
According to a senior Israeli official, during the Saturday conversation, President Trump assured Netanyahu that he would remain firm in the negotiations. Trump vowed not to sign any final agreement without meeting key Israeli demands.
