Trump has stated that negotiations with Tehran are progressing "constructively," while a possible agreement provides for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and guarantees on the Iranian nuclear program.
The US president also said that Washington will not rush into a deal with Iran, stressing that US sanctions and blockades of Iranian ports will remain in full force until a final agreement is reached.
In a post on social media, Trump writes that negotiations between the two countries are proceeding smoothly but emphasizes that his administration has no intention of exerting pressure for a quick agreement.
"Negotiations are proceeding in an orderly and constructive manner, and I have informed my representatives not to rush into a deal as time is on our side. Both sides must take their time and do it right. There can be no mistakes! Our relationship with Iran is becoming much more professional and productive," Trump wrote.
He also reiterated the US position that Iran should not develop or acquire nuclear weapons.
Trump's statement comes a day after he said a deal between the US and Iran had been "extensively negotiated" and that the Strait of Hormuz was expected to reopen, signaling the possibility of a easing of tensions after months of conflict.
According to a regional source quoted by CNN, the potential agreement between the two countries is expected to be realized in two phases.
In the first phase , Iran will restore the Strait of Hormuz to normal operation, guarantee the security of maritime transport in the region and provide guarantees that it will not pursue the development of nuclear weapons. In exchange, Tehran will be allowed to resume oil and fuel sales.
The second phase , scheduled to last 30 to 60 days, will focus on more detailed negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program and other strategic issues between the parties.
