US President Donald Trump has reacted in outrage after the EU's decision to impose a fine of 2.95 billion euros on Google.
In a post on his social network Truth Social, Trump called the decision "unfair" and threatened the EU with strong consequences if it does not withdraw from this decision.
“Europe today slapped another major American company, Google, with a $3.5 billion fine, effectively taking money that would otherwise go to American Investment and Jobs. This is in addition to the many other fines and taxes that have been issued against Google and other American technology companies, in particular. Very unfair, and the American Taxpayer will not stand for this! As I have said before, my Administration will NOT allow these discriminatory actions to stand. Apple, for example, was forced to pay $17 billion in a fine that, in my opinion, should not have been imposed on them – They must get their money back! We cannot allow this to happen to the great and unparalleled American Ingenuity and, if it does, I will be forced to initiate a Section 301 proceeding to overturn the unfair fines imposed on these American taxpayer companies.
