One person was killed and two others were injured after a man attacked tourists with a knife and a hammer in central Paris near the Eiffel Tower. The police immediately arrested the 26-year-old Frenchman.
At first he attacked a couple of tourists with a knife a few meters from the Eiffel Tower, fatally wounding a German citizen.
He was then chased by police and attacked two other people with a hammer before being arrested.
The suspect had shouted "Allahu Akbar" before carrying out the attack as he told police he was upset with the situation in Gaza and that 'many Muslims were dying in Afghanistan and Palestine'.
The suspect was sentenced to four years in prison in 2016 for planning another attack and was on the watch list of French security services, as well as known psychiatric disorders.
Saturday night's incident comes less than eight months before the French capital hosts the Olympics and could raise questions about security at the global sporting event.
