US-Iran talks yield first results, US warships pass Strait of Hormuz without

Peace talks to end the war between the US and Iran are underway in Islamabad. Reuters news agency says the talks are three-way, suggesting Pakistani mediators are moving between the two sides.

Although there is still no information on how the talks are progressing, the first positive signs of this meeting have been seen on the ground, more precisely in the Strait of Hormuz.

International media reports that several US Navy warships passed through the Strait of Hormuz today. The move was not coordinated with Iranian authorities, making it an important symbolic and operational move amid high tensions following a temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran.

According to sources, it is believed to be the first time an American ship has passed through this strategic waterway since the beginning of the conflict in February 2026, when Iran effectively closed the strait by threatening commercial ships and demanding coordination or payment for passage.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most critical points of global oil transport, with about a fifth of the world's oil passing through it. During the conflict, commercial traffic was significantly reduced to minimal levels due to fears of mines, drone attacks and Iranian threats. Even after the ceasefire announced on April 8, the movement of ships has remained limited, with Iran continuing to insist on control over the passages. This transit of US ships is seen as a clear message from Washington about freedom of navigation in international waters and as a practical test of the security of the strait after previous US strikes on the Iranian fleet and naval infrastructure.
