Quarrel in the middle of Europe, Meloni's comment irritates Macron: Mind
French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni

Macron didn't like this reaction...

A remote 'quarrel' has erupted between French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, regarding the murder of young nationalist activist Quentin Deranque in Lyon.

It all started after a post on Prime Minister Meloni's "X" platform, where she wrote that the death of the young French activist, after an attack by far-left groups, was a blow to all of Europe.

"The murder of young Quentin Deranque in France is deeply shocking and saddening. The death of a young man in his early twenties, attacked by groups linked to left-wing extremism and engulfed in a climate of ideological hatred that spans several nations, is a blow to all of Europe. No political idea, no ideological opposition can justify violence or transform confrontation into physical aggression. When hatred and violence replace dialogue, democracy is always lost ," Meloni wrote in 'X'.

But this reaction did not please Macron, who, during a statement to the media from India, did not leave Meloni without 'stabbling'. He stated that some people do not worry about problems in their country, but the moment something happens somewhere else, they are the first to react.

" I am always struck by the fact that nationalists, who do not want to be disturbed in their own country, are the first to comment on what happens elsewhere. If everyone would mind their own business, things would be very good ," Macron joked from New Delhi.

A few hours after the French president's statements, sources at Palazzo Chigi expressed their "surprise" at Macron's words.

" It is simply unclear why Macron is concerned by Giorgia Meloni's justifiable condemnation of the brutal murder of Quentin Deranque, the victim of an anti-fascist commando in Lyon that took his life, leaving a deep mark on the whole of Europe ," said the Palazzo Chigi response.

Later, Carlo Fidanza, head of the Brothers of Italy-ECR delegation in the European Parliament, tried to clarify Meloni's statement, saying that she did not attack the French government but simply expressed her condolences for the loss of a young man's life. He further added that the case of the French activist was similar to that of Charlie Kirk in the US, who was killed for his political beliefs.

" Our Prime Minister did not attack the French government, but expressed her closeness to the people and the family of the victim, denouncing the violence and political hatred that is spreading across the continent. The division on this point is frankly incomprehensible. We wish to express to French President Macron our solidarity with France and the French people following the tragic murder of twenty-three-year-old Quentin Deranque by anti-fascist terrorists. Our condolences are a gesture of friendship, not intervention. His death has particularly touched us, especially given the increase in political violence by neo-communists in Italy. We also appreciate the courage of French institutions in demanding a tone-down and the exclusion of pro-terrorist supporters from political parties. Nations that experienced the dark ages of the Years of Lead must remain vigilant. When a man is killed for his political beliefs, as happened to Kirk in the US, the free world is called upon to defend pluralism and democracy: "We must respond to ideas with ideas, we know this, but a certain anti-fascist left has not yet learned this ," he said, among other things.

The far-right activist died after being hit in the head during a fight outside a conference attended by MEP Rima Hassan of the left-wing France Unbowed party at a university in Lyon, France's third largest city.

Lyon's chief prosecutor said later Thursday that seven people, including a parliamentary assistant to a lawmaker from the France Unbowed party, were being formally investigated in the case. Three of the suspects said they were or had been linked to "ultra-left" groups. Some admitted taking part in a fight, but all denied their intention was to kill Deranque, the prosecutor said.

Macron said the country's political extremes must put their houses in order after the killing. " There is no space in France for movements that condone or legitimize violence ," Macron told reporters during a trip to India.

Lyon Mayor Grégory Doucet called on authorities on Thursday to stop a march in support of the dead activist that had been organized for Saturday./ Pamphlet
