US President Donald Trump told the UN Peacekeeping Board that Hamas had pledged to surrender its weapons. Trump warned that if it did not, Hamas would face consequences.
"I think Hamas will hand over their weapons. That's what they promised. If they don't, they will face consequences," Trump said.
He added that the ceasefire in Gaza has worked and has enabled the return of hostages, both alive and dead. According to him, such a development seemed impossible earlier.
"The ceasefire in Gaza has held. The hostages, both dead and alive, have been returned. This seemed impossible, but we did it," he said.
Trump stressed that efforts were being made to search for and find the hostages, adding that Hamas had also contributed to part of this process. He stated that the parents of the hostages who lost their lives were aware of the fate of their children and demanded the return of the bodies.
In conclusion, Trump praised the role of his administration, saying it has helped save thousands of lives and promote peace.
