Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said that in 2017, the Israeli Prime Minister tried to wiretap him. He said a bugging device was found in Boris Johnson's private bathroom at the Foreign Office after it had been used by Benjamin Netanyahu.
Johnson has claimed that when the Israeli prime minister visited his department in 2017, his security team found eavesdropping devices in the toilets after he had used the facilities.
During their meeting in his old office, Johnson says Netanyahu, whom he calls Bibi, excused himself to go to the bathroom.
In his book, Unleashed , Johnson writes: "That's where Bibi put it for a while, and it may or may not be a coincidence, but I'm told that later, when they were doing a regular sweep for bugs, they found a eavesdropping device on thunderbox."
When asked during an interview with The Telegraph if he could give more details on what happened, Johnson said: "I think everything you need to know about that episode is in the book."
The Mossad has also been accused of planting listening devices near the White House in 2018 to spy on Donald Trump.
Three former US officials told Politico that Israel had been identified by the FBI as the culprit after planting a number of miniature devices in Washington, D.C. One official told the outlet that the devices, which monitored cellphone traffic, were likely intended to spy the then president.
