War with Iran clashes Republicans, accusations against Trump of attacking

The conflict with Iran has opened deep divisions within the Republican Party, according to an analysis by The Intercept. The pro-Palestinian Institute for Middle East Understanding Policy Project has launched a $2 million ad campaign to attack Republicans and push Democrats to use the war as an electoral weapon in the midterm elections.

A new political rift has erupted in the United States following the war against Iran launched by the administration of President Donald Trump. According to an analysis published by The Intercept on March 4, 2026 by journalist Akela Lacy , the conflict has created deep tensions within the Republican Party and at the same time opened a political opportunity for Democrats in the upcoming congressional elections.

The article reports that the pro-Palestinian organization Institute for Middle East Understanding Policy Project has launched a nearly $2 million advertising campaign ahead of the U.S. midterm elections. The campaign aims to attack Republicans for their support for Israel and for sending billions of dollars in military aid to the country, while at the same time supporting Democratic candidates who are calling for a block on arms sales to Israel.

According to the organization, the war against Iran has deepened divisions within Republicans over foreign policy and the role of the United States in international conflicts. This division became apparent after statements by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who suggested that Israel had played a role in the US involvement in the war. President Trump subsequently tried to backtrack on these comments, creating new tensions within the party.

IMEU spokesman Hamid Bendaas told The Intercept that the perception that the war against Iran is being launched for Israel's interests is dividing the Republican electoral base and could benefit the Democratic Party in the 2026 elections if it decides to use this situation politically.

However, Democratic leaders have so far shown no willingness to do so. According to the organization, although internal Democratic National Committee analyses have shown that support for Israel has cost Democrats votes in the 2024 presidential election, the party's midterm election strategy has not included this factor.

IMEU also sent a letter to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee warning that unconditional support for Israel could be an electoral weakness for Democrats. According to the organization, if Democratic leaders continue to accept funding from pro-Israel lobbies, such as AIPAC, they risk losing one of their strongest arguments against Republicans in the upcoming elections.

The ad campaign has already launched in key congressional districts in Arizona and Iowa. The ads attack Republican Reps. Juan Ciscomani and Marianette Miller-Meeks for their votes in favor of billions of dollars in aid to Israel while supporting cuts to healthcare for Americans.

An ad claims that Israeli citizens enjoy universal healthcare while many Americans face bankruptcy due to medical bills. The ad also accuses Miller-Meeks of receiving large campaign donations from AIPAC and pro-Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lobbies.

Meanwhile, some Democratic candidates in the midterm elections have begun publicly linking American support for Israel to the war on Iran. North Carolina candidate Nida Allam released an ad declaring her opposition to endless wars and promising to represent a pro-peace political line in Washington.

Several current members of Congress have made the same connection. Arizona Senator Ruben Gallego and Texas Representative Joaquin Castro publicly criticized Rubio's statements and the Trump administration, suggesting that Israel may have pushed the US toward war with Iran.

Castro wrote on the X network that Rubio's comments show that Israel has put American forces at risk by insisting on attacking Iran and that the US administration became part of the war instead of trying to stop it.

Meanwhile, Gallego reacted with an ironic question: "So now Netanyahu decides when America goes to war? What happened to the slogan 'America First'?"

According to an analysis published by The Intercept, the political clash over the war with Iran is expected to directly affect the US midterm elections, where control of Congress could change depending on how American parties manage this political and diplomatic conflict. /The Intercept
