The UK Foreign Secretary is returning to London tonight, after meeting with his Iranian counterpart in Geneva, Switzerland, which was also attended by the Foreign Ministers of France, Germany and the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs.
It is learned that the message that David Lammy brought from Washington, where the day before he had met with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, was that the threat of a US military intervention is "real and approaching", however there is still a "diplomatic path" open, CNN reports.
On the other hand, European leaders expressed their condemnation of Iran's military nuclear program and talked about ways to achieve a negotiated solution.
However, although European representatives expressed willingness to meet Iranian officials again, no agreement was reached on the time or place of a future meeting.
Iran's Foreign Minister, according to sources, told those present that Tehran cannot negotiate with the United States as long as the Israeli offensive is continuing.
Meanwhile, European ministers stressed that the best way to achieve a ceasefire is to sit at the negotiating table.
David Lammy is expected to hold talks with his American counterparts again over the weekend.
