Erdogan will not attend the Peace Board Summit in Washington; sends Foreign
Donald Trump and Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is unlikely to attend the first Gaza Peace Board summit, which will take place on February 19 in Washington, according to Turkish diplomatic sources.

The Gaza Peace Board is a high-level international body, established at the initiative of United States President Donald Trump. It is composed of 24 countries, including Turkey, and aims to oversee the reconstruction of Gaza after the devastation of the war, as well as manage the transitional governance of the enclave.

Although Erdogan is considered a founding member of this board, diplomatic sources indicate that Turkey is expected to be represented at this summit by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

The meeting takes place on the same day as the beginning of Ramadan, the holy month for Muslim believers.

Hakan Fidan is a member of the Executive Board of the governing body of the Gaza Peace Board. On January 22, during the signing ceremony in Davos, he signed the founding charter on behalf of Turkey, while President Erdogan did not attend that event.
