Former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that no one can guarantee that the United States will remain in the Alliance, but he is convinced that everything possible must be done to reduce the risk of its exit.
"I cannot promise that the US will stay in NATO, no one can. However, I am convinced that we must do everything we can to reduce the risk of the US leaving and that we ourselves are in the best possible position to deal with it if it happens," he told the Spiegel newspaper.
Stoltenberg added that "relations with the US need to be built and that means we need to say when we disagree with them."
