Poland has begun sending around 40,000 troops to its eastern border with Belarus.
The Warsaw government ordered the closure of the entire border with its eastern neighbor, which has been involved in periodic joint military exercises with its major ally, Russia, since this Friday.
The exercise is part of the intensive “Zapad” maneuvers, which simulate a real battle on the ground, involving ground, naval and air forces. The maneuvers, which will last until next Tuesday, are taking place near the border area with Poland and Lithuania in Belarus.
They have received a lot of attention, especially after the wave of 19 Russian drones that violated NATO airspace and entered Poland from Ukraine.
The incident appeared to be accidental. Russia denied sending drones targeting Polish territory.
Accepting this version, US President Donald Trump said that the drones may have entered Poland by mistake. On the social network X, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk responded to the White House chief by saying that he would like this event to be a mistake, but according to him, it is actually not so.
