A major international charity has said it has lost all contact with its staff in Gaza after the region suffered an internet blackout.
ActionAid said it was "deeply concerned" for the safety of its colleagues in the besieged Palestinian enclave and called for phone and internet services to be restored.
" Tonight, we lost all contact with our colleagues in Gaza. We are very concerned for their safety and that of all the people of Gaza as signs grow of a major ground escalation after almost three weeks of bombing. We urgently call for the restoration of communication channels, as this is not only a matter of principle, but also a practical necessity," the statement said.
The organization warned that the power outage isolates the population from the outside world, making it nearly impossible for them to seek help.
Earlier this evening, internet monitoring group Netblocks said Gaza had suffered the "biggest single outage in internet connectivity" since the conflict began nearly three weeks ago.
