Israel's war with Hamas since October 7 has claimed the lives of at least 29 media professionals in less than a month.
The announcement was made by the non-governmental organization Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).
The now three-week-old war between the Israeli army and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip of 2.4 million people, erupted after its military wing attacked southern sectors of the Israeli territory.
"Over the past three weeks, CPJ has documented the deadliest period for journalists covering armed conflict since it began collecting data in 1992," the Commission said in a statement.
As the freedom of journalists to do their work is increasingly restricted, the world's ability to learn and understand what is happening in this conflict is greatly affected, on an international scale.
The Hamas attack on Israel killed more than 1,400 people, mostly civilians, while at least 229 were kidnapped, according to Israeli authorities.
Continued retaliatory Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip has killed more than 7,300 people, mostly civilians, including more than 3,000 children, according to Hamas' health ministry. According to the same source, about 50 hostages were killed by the Israeli bombing.
