President Donald Trump delivers remarks during a Medal of Honor ceremony in the East Room of the White House on Monday.

United States President Donald Trump, during his remarks at a Medal of Honor ceremony at the White House, addressed the recent military strikes against Iran. Trump said Iran ignored White House warnings not to rebuild its nuclear program. Trump was referring to the U.S. strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities in June, which the White House claimed “completely” destroyed Tehran’s nuclear program.

"After the destruction of Iran's nuclear program and Operation Midnight Hammer a short time ago, we warned Iran not to make any attempt to rebuild it in another location because they were not capable of using what we blew up with such power, but they ignored those warnings and refused to cease their efforts for nuclear weapons. The regime already had missiles capable of hitting Europe and our bases, both domestic and abroad, and would soon have missiles capable of reaching our beautiful America ," the president said.

Trump offered a four-pronged explanation for this weekend's strikes against Iran, telling reporters and guests that he wanted to destroy the country's missile capabilities, its Navy, end its nuclear ambitions and prevent it from arming terrorists.

"Our objectives are clear. First, we are destroying Iran's missile capabilities - and you see this happening every hour - and their capacity to produce new ones, and they do quite well. Second, we are destroying their navy. We have already shot down 10 ships. They are at the bottom of the sea ," Trump said.

The president said the strikes, which began in the early hours of Saturday morning and continued into Monday, would ensure that Iran could never acquire a nuclear weapon. He warned that the regime was "on the right track to legitimately acquiring one" under a deal signed by former President Barack Obama, from which Trump withdrew the United States during his first term.

"And finally, we are ensuring that the Iranian regime cannot continue to arm, finance and direct terrorist armies outside its borders," Trump said.

The president added that talks with Iran about a deal were intermittent and ultimately stalled in the face of military strikes.

"We thought we had a deal, but then they backed out. And they came back and we thought we had a deal, and they backed out. I said, you can't deal with these people, you have to do it the right way ," he said.

Trump added that the joint operation launched by the US and Israel against Iran was the "best chance" to counter the threats posed by the Tehran regime.

“This was our last best chance to strike, what we are doing now, and eliminate the intolerable threats that this sick and evil regime poses. And they are indeed sick and evil ,” Trump said during remarks from the White House today.

President Trump added that the United States is already significantly ahead of time projections for war with Iran, but he did not offer a definitive answer on when he expects the military operation to end.

“Whatever the time is, it’s okay. Whatever it takes. From the beginning, we projected four to five weeks, but we have the ability to go much longer than that. We will do it ,” he said.

During remarks on the East Room, Trump dismissed the idea that he would be bored after four to five weeks of conflict in Iran.

“They said, ‘Oh, well, the president will do it very quickly. After that, he’ll be bored.’ I’m not bored. There’s nothing boring about it,” Trump said.

While the timeline is still unclear, Trump expressed his condolences to the families of the four American troops who have lost their lives in the war.

"In their memory, we continue this mission with fierce and unwavering determination to crush the threat that this terrorist regime poses to the American people, and a threat, indeed, it is. We have the strongest and most powerful military, by far, in the world, and we will triumph easily ," Trump said.
