The Iranian-backed Hezbollah group is today the target of Israel's largest coordinated attack on Lebanon since the start of the war, despite a ceasefire reached with Iran.

Experts estimate that this could be Israel's last attempt to further weaken the organization, designated a terrorist organization by the United States, before US President Donald Trump exerts pressure to limit Israeli attacks.

" What we are seeing today in Beirut could be Israel's final act to strike every Hezbollah target in all of Lebanon and Beirut, not just the southern suburbs ," Firas Maksad, director for the Middle East and North Africa at Eurasia Group, told CNN.

Analysts point out that, without Trump's pressure, Israel may not stop its military campaign in Lebanon.

" The bottom line is that without Trump's intervention and without his pressure on Netanyahu, I highly doubt that Benjamin Netanyahu will stop the war in Lebanon ," Fawaz Gerges, a professor of international relations at the London School of Economics, told CNN.

Over the past 24 hours, officials involved in the negotiations have given contradictory statements regarding Lebanon's involvement in the ceasefire announced overnight.

Pakistan, which brokered the deal, said Lebanon was part of it. However, Israel launched its largest military campaign against the country on Wednesday and issued mass evacuation orders.

" The main challenge for Israel in Lebanon is whether President Trump will pressure his Israeli counterpart to stop the attacks ," Gerges added to CNN.
