Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has suggested that China could play a key role in efforts to end the war in Ukraine. The statement was made during an official visit to China, where Orpo stressed that Beijing has direct influence over Moscow.
According to him, Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Chinese authorities have the opportunity to help end the conflict by exerting pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and reducing strategic cooperation with Russia.
Earlier, the Chinese Defense Minister, according to state media, said that Beijing is willing to "strengthen strategic coordination" with Russia, a statement that contradicts international calls for distancing from Moscow.
The war in Ukraine remains one of the greatest global security challenges, while the role of major powers, including China, is seen as crucial to any possible diplomatic solution.
