American magazine Forbes published its 40th annual "World's Billionaires" list, the definitive ranking of the richest people on the planet, showing an unprecedented increase in global wealth over the past year.
This year's list includes 3,428 billionaires, about 400 more than last year's record and the highest number since the ranking was created in 1987.
According to Forbes, the world's billionaires collectively own a record $20.1 trillion in wealth, compared to $16.1 trillion in 2025, reflecting the growth of financial markets and technology companies.
Musk tops the list
Elon Musk has been ranked the richest person in the world for the second year in a row, and according to Forbes, he is the richest person ever recorded. His fortune is estimated at around $839 billion, an increase of nearly half a trillion dollars compared to last year.
Musk's rise in wealth is largely due to the rise in the value of his companies Tesla and SpaceX, the latter of which aims to go public in 2026.
Musk is also the first person in history to cross the $800 billion threshold, moving closer to becoming the world's first trillionaire.
“ This is the year of the billionaires ,” said Chase Peterson-Withorn, senior wealth editor at Forbes.
" The planet added more than one billionaire a day over the past 12 months, as the stock market boom fueled by artificial intelligence drove wealth to previously unimaginable levels ," he said.
The richest five in the world
After Musk, second place on the list is held by Larry Page, co-founder of Google, with a fortune of $257 billion.
In third place is fellow Google co-founder Sergey Brin with $237 billion, followed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos with $224 billion.
The top five is completed by Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, with an estimated fortune of around $222 billion.
Donald Trump's wealth increases
According to Forbes, US President Donald Trump's wealth has increased by about 27%, reaching $6.5 billion, mainly due to deals in the cryptocurrency sector and legal developments in the US. He ranks 645th in the world on the billionaires list.
390 new billionaires on the list
The 2026 list includes 390 new billionaires, including well-known figures from various fields.
Among them are musician and entrepreneur Dr. Dre, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, tennis legend Roger Federer, investor Kimbal Musk, and Greg Abel, Warren Buffett's successor at the helm of Berkshire Hathaway.
The list also includes Nicole Shanahan, former US vice presidential candidate and ex-wife of Sergey Brin.
US dominance on the list
Globally, the United States continues to have the largest number of billionaires in the world, with 989 people on the list, who collectively own about $8.4 trillion in wealth.
Following the US is mainland China with 539 billionaires, while India ranks third with 229 billionaires.
The 100 billion dollar club
Another record this year is the increase in the number of people with assets over $100 billion.
According to Forbes, 20 people in the world now have 12-figure fortunes, compared to 15 a year ago, while in 2017 there were none.
This elite group collectively owns $3.8 trillion, meaning that just 0.5% of the world's billionaires control almost a fifth of all their wealth.
Those who left the list
On the other hand, 89 people dropped off the list this year, including Shift4 Payments founder and current NASA administrator Jared Isaacman, as well as real estate tycoon Charles Cohen.
In addition, 39 billionaires have passed away in the last year.
The Forbes list remains one of the leading indicators of global wealth distribution and reflects the growing influence of sectors such as technology, artificial intelligence and financial markets on wealth creation in the world. / Pamphlet
