Germany and Spain have rejected Emmanuel Macron's proposal to send troops to Ukraine to fight Russia.
This has been made clear once again by Chancellor Olaf Scholz from Rome, where he is participating in the congress of the European Socialist Party.
"We will not send our troops to Ukraine. We reaffirmed that our NATO countries will not become a direct part of this conflict, we will not send troops to Ukraine and we will do everything to prevent this kind of evolution," Scholz emphasized.
In this way, official Berlin says 'NO' to Emmanuel Macron's bombshell proposal in recent days to send NATO troops to the front line.
"The war in Ukraine, however, will end the day Putin withdraws his troops, but he will only do so if he realizes that he can no longer advance in Ukraine, and that is why our support is essential. I am grateful that many leaders Europeans have strengthened our appeal to prevent Ukraine from running out of ammunition," added the German chancellor.
Even Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, after the meeting with Scholz, has categorically denied a direct confrontation with Vladimir Putin's troops on the ground.
"I just met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Rome to talk about the war in Ukraine and to find new ways to continue supporting our allies in the face of Russian aggression. The conflict enters a delicate phase. We must show commitment and determination Ours. The security and freedom of Europeans are at risk," Sanchez wrote on the X platform.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon is considering sending weapons from its own stockpile to meet Kiev's demands for more ammunition. The Pentagon confirms that allocating funds to the country at war is "crucial because if Kiev loses, NATO will have to fight against Russia."
US Defense is evaluating whether to use its stockpiles to supply Ukraine in the absence of funds. Two US officials reported this to the New York Times, underscoring that it is a short-term measure while they wait for Congress to unblock the budget, which also contains new aid for Kiev.
However, depleting the reserves of the Department of Defense without having the funds to replenish them would mean putting the military readiness of the United States at risk, and the Biden administration is reflecting on this risk.
