An alarm has been sounded in recent hours on the southern coast of Crete, after significant successive arrivals of migrant flows were recorded during the night and in the early hours of the morning in Heraklion, Rethymno and Chania.
According to information, a boat with 430 migrants is at sea south of Rethymno and is expected to arrive in Agia Galini.
At 1:00 AM, a boat carrying 96 migrants was spotted in the maritime area of Loutra, Gortyna municipality, with initial information indicating that 16 of them were Egyptians and the rest Sudanese.
At approximately the same time, another 73 migrants landed in Kali Limenes. The local authorities, in cooperation with the Municipalities, had chartered buses to ensure their immediate transport to Heraklion, while the planned registration and accommodation procedures continue.
At this time, a third boat with 67 people arrived in the Lenta area, specifically in Dyskos, intensifying the mobilization of local authorities and communities.
At the same time, a fourth ship is at sea just 1.5 miles off the southern coast of Heraklion and is expected to anchor on one of the beaches.
Yesterday, a boat with 20 migrants arrived in Gavdos, while another arrival of 67 people was registered in Paleochora.
According to the mayor of Sfakion, Yannis Zervos, the number expected to arrive on the southern coast of Crete, which is now the main gateway for migratory flows, is not hundreds but hundreds of thousands, waiting to "find" good conditions to board a ship and set off for our island.
Based on the information so far, the migrants who have arrived in Crete in the last few hours are mainly men, aged 17 to 30, while women are few in number.
These flows confirm once again the intense migratory pressures facing the southern front of Crete, with local authorities requesting infrastructure reinforcement and direct support from the State.
