Residential buildings were hit in the devastating attack, which involved the use of Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic bombers, part of Vladimir Putin's nuclear strike force, launching conventional missiles over Ukraine. MiG-31 fighter jets were also deployed.
NATO fighter jets took to the skies overnight as Russia bombarded Ukraine with airstrikes, missiles and drones, raining down near the Polish border. Explosions hit the city of Lviv, just 43 miles from Poland.
Ukrainian air defenses fired furiously in all directions to repel the attack, said Mayor Andriy Sadovyi. He wrote on his Telegram channel that “air defenses are active in the city! Do not film or share footage of our defenders at work.”
Poland's operational command said allied aircraft were operating in its airspace, while its defenses were on alert. It said in X: "These operations are preventive in nature and aim to secure airspace and protect citizens, especially in areas adjacent to the threatened area."
The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces is monitoring the current situation and its subordinate forces and resources remain fully prepared for immediate response.
Thick clouds of black smoke filled the night sky as Lviv suffered the worst bombing of the brutal three-year war. Residents were ordered to stay indoors and keep their windows closed as dozens of fires broke out overnight. About 25 attacks were reported during a five-hour assault that caused power outages. One report said: "It's just hell in Lviv right now."

Among the targets was the Sparrow technopark. Russian sources suggested it was used for NATO supplies to Ukraine. But Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said that “this is a civilian facility, with no military component.”
Residential buildings were hit in the devastating attack, which involved the use of Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic bombers, part of Vladimir Putin's nuclear strike force, launching conventional missiles over Ukraine. MiG-31 fighter jets were also deployed.
The attacks included Kinzhal or Dagger hypersonic missiles, each costing £11 million, Kalibr cruise missiles, guided aerial bombs and approximately 700 drones.
Meanwhile, a Russian attack on the city of Zaporizhia killed at least one person, while air raid sirens were heard across the country. Zaporizhia was bombarded by Shahed attack drones and guided aerial bombs, cutting off electricity and water supplies.
Russia also struck power installations, plunging parts of Ukraine into darkness. The western region of Ivano-Frankivsk was also hit, where the Russians targeted the coal-fired Burshtyn power plant.
The Ladyzhyn power plant in Vinnytsia was also reportedly hit. Odessa was also hit by a swarm of drones, causing fires.

The horrific attacks come after Kremlin spokesmen warned that Ukraine would "never be the target" and issued a chilling threat that Vlad the Mad could attack other European countries, including "taking" the Portuguese capital, Lisbon.
Dmitry Rogozin published a map highlighting 23 locations in the United Kingdom as targets for attacks, singling out military bases in Barrow, Plymouth and Glasgow.
Threats from the Kremlin
Vladimir Putin could launch missiles at 23 British countries, a senior Kremlin spokesman has threatened. Senator Dmitry Rogozin published a map highlighting defence-related countries as targets for attack by Mad Vlad's arsenal.

Former deputy prime minister and space agency chief Rogozin said in a dire warning that the UK would become "deadly dangerous" and singled out military bases in Barrow, Plymouth and Glasgow.
Publishing a map highlighting countries linked to the UK's defence as Russian targets, he warned: "It is useful reading for those of us who still consider peace with the imperialist aggressors possible. And my advice to our [Russian] oligarchs: do not send your children to study in England. It is deadly dangerous."

This chilling statement came as part of a furious response, along with Putin's chief television propagandist, Vladimir Solovyov, to former British defense secretary Ben Wallace, who said: "we must help Ukraine acquire long-range capabilities to make Crimea uninhabitable. We must suffocate Crimea."
The 23 sites, which include military and industrial sites across all four UK countries, are set out in a map drawn from the UK government's policy document "Defence Industrial Strategy 2025: Making Defence an Engine for Growth".
TV propagandist Solovyov, known for his Kremlin-scripted speeches, declared: "Dmitry Rogozin today posted a reminder of the targets in Britain that could be destroyed first. Idiots will get what they deserve, they will simply get what they deserve."

Solovyov threatened to deploy Russia's Poseidon underwater nuclear drone against Britain, declaring: "And your country doesn't even exist."
The threat came a day after Russian state television warned of a terrorist operation to blow up a World War II shipwreck filled with 1,400 tons of explosives in the Thames Estuary.
A covert attack by Russian special forces would serve as "revenge" for alleged British involvement in Ukraine's successful operation to disable and destroy dozens of Kremlin-owned oil refineries, it has been suggested. / Adapted from Daily Star /
