Hegseth: Mojtaba Khamenei is alive, but seriously injured
Pete Hegseth

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, together with the Chief of Staff, General Dan Caine, held a press conference on developments in the US-Israeli confrontation with Iran.

This was the first public statement by senior military leaders since the blockade of Iranian ports was launched. According to Hegseth, the US is calling on the Iranian regime to make a "wise decision", warning that in case of non-compliance with the agreements, the bombing will resume immediately.

The Defense Secretary confirmed that Washington will maintain the naval blockade of Iranian ports, which has been in effect since Monday, "for as long as necessary."

Gen. Dan Caine clarified that the measure applies to all ships, regardless of nationality, moving to or from Iranian ports. He stressed that the operation constitutes a blockade of ports and not of the Strait of Hormuz.

In his statements, Hegseth added that the US would welcome the participation of other countries to contribute to operations related to security in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Hegseth, there are reports that Mojtaba Khamenei, described as a key figure in the Iranian leadership, has been wounded but remains alive. This claim was not accompanied by independent evidence.

The US secretary also stated that China has guaranteed the US that it will not supply Iran with weapons during the ceasefire period.
