Pope's reaction to Donald Trump's new attack
Pope Leo strongly condemned leaders who spend billions on wars and said the world is "being ruined by a handful of tyrants," in comments unusual for their critical tone, delivered by Cameroon today, after US President Donald Trump attacked him again on social media.
Leo, the first American pope, also criticized leaders who use religious language to justify wars and called for a "decisive change of course" during a meeting in the largest city in Cameroon's English-speaking areas.
"Warlords pretend not to know that it only takes a moment to destroy, while often a lifetime is not enough to rebuild."
"They turn a blind eye to the fact that billions of dollars are spent on killing and destruction, while the resources needed for healing, education and reconstruction are nowhere to be found," the Pope said.
