An Iranian military spokesman, Mohammad Akraminia, declared that the Strait of Hormuz will remain under Iran's control at all costs. According to the official ISNA news agency, the military spokesman stated that control of Hormuz generates significant income for Tehran and increases its influence in the international arena.
"Our control over the Strait of Hormuz will generate significant economic revenue for our country, which could even double our oil revenues, and will strengthen our influence on the international stage ," said Mohammad Akraminia.
He also added that the western part of the strait is controlled by the naval forces of the Revolutionary Guard, the ideological army of the Islamic Republic, while the eastern part is guarded by the Iranian navy.
Control of the Strait of Hormuz, which transports approximately 20% of global oil, is a significant sticking point in negotiations to end the war with the United States.
Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the parliamentary committee on national security, said that the body he heads has developed a plan for managing the maritime corridor.
" Iran aims to exploit this strategic position as a lever of power through strategic management of the Strait ," he said, according to state television.
