British Prime Minister Keir Starmer held a meeting with ministers in his parliamentary studio, where he urged them not to plunge the Labour Party into a new political crisis through a challenge to his leadership.
According to Sky News, Starmer warned the cabinet that a showdown for the party leadership would "plunge" Labour into "chaos."
"He is understood to have told colleagues that a challenge tomorrow would '100% do this'," Sky News reported of the prime minister's message.
Also, cabinet ministers close to Starmer have held informal meetings in parliament, seeking support to avoid internal tensions in the party.
The developments come at a time when allies of British Health Secretary Wes Streeting have hinted that he could resign and launch a direct challenge to Starmer for the leadership of the Labour Party.
Despite growing speculation of divisions within the government, Downing Street has attempted to downplay tensions.
"Sir Keir Starmer has full confidence in Wes Streeting," a spokesman for the British prime minister previously stated.
The situation is being closely watched in British politics, as any potential move against Starmer could open a fierce battle for control of the Labour Party.
