Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has responded to Vladimir Putin's statement that he is not the legitimate leader of Ukraine.
For foreign media, Zelensky declared that he is not worried by Putin's words as Ukrainians know the Constitution and know their laws.
"Ukrainians know their Constitution, they know the laws, and the statements of the illegitimate president of the Russian Federation about the illegitimacy of the president of Ukraine are, frankly, boring. Anyone who knows how to read the laws will draw their own conclusions from Putin's words, which frankly do not bother me much, " Zelensky said.
Putin yesterday branded his Ukrainian counterpart illegitimate after his term expired on May 20 and the country postponed elections because of the war.
"But with whom to negotiate? This is not an idle question... Of course we understand that the legitimacy of the current head of state is over," Putin said.
