Attack on American soldiers in Syria, Trump reacts: We will retaliate

United States President Donald Trump has warned that there will be a harsh response after the latest attack in Syria, where three Americans were killed and three others were injured, an event that American authorities attribute to the extremist organization Islamic State (ISIS).

Trump addressed the media at the White House before leaving for the traditional Army-Navy football game in Baltimore. He expressed his sorrow for the loss of American lives, describing the fallen as "great patriots," and wished the three wounded soldiers a speedy recovery.

In a message on the Truth Social network, Trump wrote that the attack was a direct act of ISIS against the United States and Syria, highlighting the high risk in areas of Syria that are “not fully controlled.” He added that Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa was “very angry” about the attack and warned that there would be a very serious response.

The attack, which occurred near the historic city of Palmyra, marks the first US strike in Syria that has resulted in casualties since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime a year ago. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed that one of the dead was an American translator, and that the operation in which the casualties occurred was part of ongoing counter-terrorism missions in the region.

According to Syrian reports from the state news agency SANA, a gunman suspected of being linked to ISIS opened fire at the entrance to a military base. Syrian authorities are investigating whether he was an active member of the group or simply a follower of its ideology, dismissing speculation that the attacker could have been part of the security services.
