The attack on Israel, the UN Security Council convenes urgently

The UN Security Council will meet on Sunday to discuss the war in the Gaza Strip.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the attack by Hamas and called for "all diplomatic efforts to avoid a wider conflagration," UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a statement.

"The Secretary General is deeply concerned about the civilian population and calls for maximum restraint. Civilians must be respected and protected in accordance with international humanitarian law at all times," added Dujarric.
