The deadly Marrakesh earthquake prompted Algeria, which cut ties with Morocco two years ago, to open its airspace for humanitarian and medical flights to Morocco on Saturday.
In a statement on the earthquake situation in Morocco, the Algerian presidency said it was ready to offer humanitarian aid as well as all its material and human capabilities in solidarity with the Moroccan people.
There is a long history of tensions between the two countries mainly over the disputed region of Western Sahara. The border between them has been closed since 1994.
We recall that over 1,000 people have died as a result of a powerful earthquake that hit the African country of Morocco on Friday evening.
The 6.8-magnitude quake was recorded in the Atlas Mountains, in the West of the country, while hundreds of people were injured.
Authorities confirmed that the epicenter of the earthquake was 71 kilometers southwest of Marrakesh, with a depth of 18.5 kilometers, and the tremors were recorded at 11:11 at night.
Hospitals in Marrakesh are facing a high influx of patients, while calls for blood donations have been made.
