Shkruar nga PamfletiIran launched a fierce military retaliation against Israel on Saturday evening, launching over 200 ballistic missiles towards the center of the country, following reports that the Islamic Republic's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in joint Israeli-American attacks in Tehran.
According to CNN's on-the-ground crews, at least one Iranian missile managed to penetrate Israeli air defenses and hit the Tel Aviv area, causing a powerful explosion. A large cloud of dark smoke rose above the city's skyline, while war sirens were heard across central Israel, including Jerusalem.
CNN reported that this appeared to be the largest wave of Iranian missiles yet launched against Israel. Most of the missiles were neutralized, but the penetration of at least one of them indicates that tensions have reached a peak.
Initial reports suggested direct hits at four separate locations in Gush Dan. Civil Emergencies later reported that seven people were lightly injured at one of the locations, including a 40-year-old man in serious condition. A short time later, a total of 16 injuries were reported, two of whom were described as serious.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they remain on high alert due to the possibility that Hezbollah might decide to join the offensive and open a new front.
The Jordanian military later issued a statement saying it had intercepted 49 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and missiles that were launched from Iran towards Israeli territory.
