United States President Donald Trump, in an exclusive interview with NBC News, stated that he is convinced that Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been assassinated. He stated that media reports of Khamenei's death are an accurate story.
" We think that's an accurate story. The people who make all the decisions, most of them are gone ," Trump said in a phone interview with NBC News.
Trump further added that today's military strikes on Iran were an absolute success and that the damage caused to Iran will take time to recover.
" We have caused tremendous damage. It would take them years to rebuild ," Trump added.
Trump also confirmed that a large number of leaders had been killed in today's attacks on Iran. According to him, the top decision-makers have been eliminated.
" I don't want to say about two people ," the president added without specifying a number.
Asked who will replace Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, Donald Trump said he has no idea, but ironically added that he will be called shortly to ask who he wants to be the new leader.
" I don't know, but at some point they're going to call me and ask me who I'd like. I'm just being a little sarcastic when I say that ," Trump added.
This statement comes after attacks hit Khamenei's compound in Tehran, the headquarters of the Revolutionary Guard, nuclear facilities and other centers of power, causing extensive damage and thick smoke over the capital.
Reports from Israeli sources, including senior officials and media outlets such as Reuters, CNN and Fox News, confirm that Khamenei's body was found in the ruins of his destroyed compound, and that he is presumed dead.
On the other hand, Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, have denied these claims, saying that Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian are alive.
However, Khamenei has not appeared publicly since the attacks, and satellite reports show total destruction of his official residence. The attacks came after ongoing tensions, including failed nuclear talks and proxy attacks by Iran.
Trump has called for regime change, urging Iranian forces to surrender and for the people to take control of their country. Iran has launched missile strikes on US bases in the region, but no US casualties have been reported so far./ Pamphlet
