Iran has begun erecting barricades at the entrances to its underground nuclear facility in Isfahan, an effort to prevent any possible interference with its enriched uranium reserves, according to a report published by the Institute for Science and International Security.
The analysis is based on recently captured high-resolution satellite imagery, which shows the construction of new checkpoints near the three main entrances to the facility. These include earthen berms, piles of rubble, and fence-like structures.
According to the institute, the barricades were put in place after March 18, as no such measures are visible in images from that date. The entrances to the tunnels, which lead to underground structures where most of the enriched uranium is suspected to be stored, have been covered with soil and there are no signs of access being restored.
The report states that all main roads leading to the entrances are blocked. Two barricades and the presence of vehicles have been identified at the southern entrance, suggesting continuous monitoring. The central entrance appears more fortified, with several layers of barriers and a fenced area.
The northern entrance is also blocked with large piles of soil and rubble, while the existing gates are closed.
The institute estimates that these measures are intended to slow down any attempts to enter the facility and make a possible operation to retrieve nuclear materials more complex. Although the obstacles can be removed with special equipment, this would require additional time to penetrate the facility.
