Former Albanian-born mobster John Alite, who was once one of John Gotti's most trusted men, has now become a city councilor in the city of Englishtown, New Jersey.
According to foreign media, the former "soldier" of the "Gambino" mafia family, who was once convicted of 6 murders and dozens of violent attacks, was sworn in as a member of the City Council on Wednesday, taking an unexpected turn in his life.
"I had a dark past, but now I want to make amends and end my life doing positive things," said 62-year-old Alite.
Known as one of the Gambino clan's most successful "cashiers" during the '80s and '90s, Alite believes his street experience will help him in politics.
"Every aspect of the road is like government, so I understand the political maneuvering and intrigue well," he added.
