Israel does not stop attacks, UN: Gaza has become a hell on earth

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, says 64 of its staff have now been killed in Gaza during the Israel-Hamas war. According to her, a humanitarian ceasefire is needed immediately as not only are churches and mosques being attacked, but diseases such as scabies are also spreading.

A colleague was killed yesterday along with his family – his eight children and his wife – while he was at home, spokeswoman Juliette Touma said.

According to the BBC, Juliette Touma said the 450 shelters they manage across the Gaza Strip are becoming overcrowded, with 670,000 people staying in UN facilities in total.

"We are starting to get reports of diseases spreading like scabies and diarrhea. There must be a humanitarian ceasefire. Places that should be protected have been hit – churches, mosques and UN facilities. So no place is safe. Gaza has very quickly turned into a hell on earth."

Meanwhile on Monday evening, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, saying "this is a time for war".
Israel has been bombing Gaza since the October 7 attacks by Hamas that killed 1,400 people and saw at least 239 taken hostage.

Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry says more than 8,000 people have been killed since Israel's retaliatory bombing began.
