US President Joe Biden has addressed the nation about the clashes in the Gaza Strip. He opened his speech by saying that the attacks were carried out by the "bloody hands of the terrorist organization Hamas".
He added that there is no excuse for terrorism, as he emphasized that what is happening in the Gaza Strip is a human tragedy.
" We focus on Israel and make sure that Israel takes care of its citizens. There is no excuse for terrorism. Hamas offers only bloodshed and nothing else. The loss of life is heartbreaking, Israel has the right and obligation to respond. We respect the laws of war, they matter, they make a difference. American citizens are praying for the families affected by this atrocity. This is what we mean by human tragedy ," he said, adding that the US would continue to "stand united" with Israel.
Biden announced that Holocaust survivors are among those being held hostage by Hamas. It also confirmed that 14 US citizens have been killed so far.
" Hamas has raped, assaulted and kidnapped women as trophies. Parents have used their bodies as shields to protect their children. We must be clear: We stand with Israel. Hamas offers nothing but terror and bloodshed ," the president said.
