The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has declared that he is ready to start talks with the West on the issue of Ukraine.
“Russia is ready to start talks with Ukraine, the United States, and Europe about the future of Ukraine, if they want it too. We will not give up what is ours. Russia will not start a war with Europe and we have no interest in fighting against NATO," Putin said, emphasizing at the same time that Moscow will protect its national interests. a>
It is recalled that Russia has in its possession approximately 17.5% of the territory that was internationally recognized as part of Ukraine when the Soviet Union fell in 1991.
Russia annexed Crimea in 2014 and last year said four other Ukrainian territories, which its troops partially control, are part of Russia.
While Kiev said it will not rest until the last Russian soldier is expelled from Ukraine.
"USA is taking advantage of Europe"
The Russian president accused the United States of using Europe for its own interests.
"Russia will be guided by its own interests when dealing with Ukraine, regardless of Kiev's efforts to conclude any agreement", Putin concluded.
