Croatia has decided to stay out of US President Donald Trump's new diplomatic initiative. Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said on Wednesday that his country will not join the "Peace Board", a structure proposed by Trump during the World Economic Forum in Davos.
" After a thorough analysis, the government's position is that Croatia will not currently join the 'Peace Board' for many reasons ," Plenkovic told reporters, without providing details on the concrete reasons behind this decision.
According to official announcements, Croatia was invited to participate in this board, which, initially, aimed to contribute to finding a solution to the war in the Gaza Strip. However, as critics of the initiative point out, the Peace Board's ambitions have expanded significantly, aiming to act in various conflicts around the globe, an approach that many European diplomats see as direct competition with the role of the United Nations.
Plenkovic himself has been cautious in his earlier statements, linking the decision to participate to the need for a unified European Union stance on the initiative. The Zagreb government is expected to follow the official line of the EU, which has not yet taken a clear position on the “Peace Board”.
