The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in The Hague decided to release former Yugoslav Army general Nebojsa Pavkovic early, following a request from the Serbian government due to his serious health condition.

Pavkovic, a former commander of the Yugoslav Army, was sentenced to 22 years in prison for crimes against Albanians in Kosovo in 1999, and the verdict against him is final.

General Nebojša Pavković, former commander of the Third Army of the Yugoslav Army and Chief of the General Staff, landed in Belgrade this afternoon after departing from Finland.

As seen in the photo published by the Serbian page "192_rs" on Instagram, the general was photographed from the plane during the flight and he landed in Belgrade shortly before 6 p.m. After arriving in Belgrade, General Pavković was transported by ambulance to the VMA.

Serbian media report that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić called General Pavković before he left for Serbia and wished him a safe trip.

Meanwhile, his daughter Marija Pavković spoke about her father's early release from prison to Informer TV, saying that when he saw the papers, he did not believe he would return to Serbia.

"He saw me, he wasn't happy, he was surprised as if he didn't believe me... he said he didn't believe us, that we were lying to him. He was sure that he would come to Serbia only today, when they brought him from the embassy to the airport. I spoke to him on the phone and then he said to me: "Where are you, my savior?"," she confessed.

As Marija Pavković adds, her faith did not let her give up until the end, and the state and lawyers saw the urgency of the situation for her father to return to Serbia.

“I prayed for him and kept repeating: 'Lord, do your miracle because I know you can do it...'. He was released on the Day of the Cross. The state and the lawyer asked for the documents to be submitted to The Hague as soon as possible. Today he just realized that he is going home. I don't know what President Vučić said to him, but it encouraged him a lot. He asked me to thank the president first. He was impatient, the flight took a little longer. He kept asking if we were over Serbia, and then when we arrived he smiled. If it weren't for President Vučić, who started everything, the lawyer and I would not have succeeded in anything, because it is a bureaucratic mess. At the initiative of the president, everyone worked overtime and asked what was needed. Miloš Vučić also helped a lot, as did Nenad Vučić, the Minister of Justice, the people at our embassy in Helsinki worked "Day and night. Aleksandar Jankovic, Tijana Dobric, Dado and Sloba fought and wrote like lions for him," the daughter of the infamous general further revealed.
