President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, said today that he believes there will be meetings to negotiate with Iran "this week."
“ We think there will be meetings this week. We certainly hope for that. The ships are coming through. That’s a very, very good sign. We have a postponement; we have an extension. We see that as something really positive ,” Witkoff said at a conference in Miami.
Witkoff's comments come as Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the US has yet to receive an Iranian response to the 15-point proposal the Trump administration put on the table for negotiations to end the war with Iran, saying it could come at any moment. Iranian state media has reported that Tehran has rejected the offer.
"We haven't received it yet. Look, we have messages. We have had an exchange of messages and indications from the Iranian system, whatever is left of it, regarding a willingness to talk about certain things ," Rubio told CNN.
He added that the US is waiting for clarification on who will be on the other side of the table on Iran, after US and Israeli attacks resulted in the deaths of many Iranian leaders.
