After the Americans, the British also seem to have held secret conversations and meetings with the Russians, where the conflict in Ukraine was discussed, but without the knowledge of Kiev.
British media outlet Sky News reports that British officials have engaged in diplomatic discussions with key Kremlin representatives regarding global security amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The secret meetings are said to have taken place over the past 18 months, taking place in places as diverse as Vienna and New York as part of behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts.
Discussions have largely revolved around security concerns affecting both the UK and the international community, including topics such as grain shortages and nuclear safety.
But Great Britain has not actively pursued peace negotiations aimed at a diplomatic solution to the conflict, as confirmed by a senior British diplomat who took part in some of these talks.
" We have been in contact and we think it is essential to maintain an open dialogue during the war in Ukraine. We are in no way dividing up parts of the country or making peace agreements on behalf of anyone, but it is very important to keep this line of contact open ," he said.
A spokesman for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) informed that meetings with Russian officials have indeed taken place, but only when they have been deemed "absolutely necessary".
The spokesperson also dismissed any claims suggesting that these discussions were aimed at negotiating an end to the Ukraine conflict, deeming such claims "neither credible nor accurate"./ SkyNews
