Former French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin has sharply criticized the policies of the United States and Israel in the Middle East, warning that their actions could have serious consequences for the international order.
In a recent interview, de Villepin declared that the US is currently in the hands of "totally irresponsible people" who, according to him, are endangering the fate of the peoples of the world by imposing a logic of force that he described as "the law of the jungle."
The French politician, who in 2003 as Foreign Minister attracted international attention by opposing the American intervention in Iraq in the UN Security Council, said that the current intervention against Iran is even more problematic from the perspective of international law.
According to him, what is happening today constitutes a dangerous precedent for the global order.
"We are rolling in the mud of history, " he said, emphasizing that "war is not a game" and that the actions taken by Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu cannot remain without consequences.
De Villepin also stressed that the war was not declared to "liberate Iran," adding that democratic countries must react decisively in the face of what he described as a "catastrophe foretold."
