Meanwhile, about 25 states are ready to send National Guard troops to Washington, D.C. if needed after the election results, Guard officials said.
No official request has been made for Guard troops, but government officials are bracing for a possible repeat of the violence seen during the January 6, 2021 riots at the Capitol.
About 25,000 Guard troops from across the US poured into Washington in the days after the riots and shut down the city for Joe Biden's inauguration.
Col. Jean Paul Laurenceau, chief of future operations for the National Guard Bureau, said yesterday that it was unclear how many troops would be needed or required by the election.
" We're here to support DC with support, housing, transportation — anything they need to prepare for this mission ," he said.
