Massacre in Canada, Prime Minister Carney reacts: I strongly condemn the

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has reacted to the shooting at a school in the province of British Columbia. He described it as a "horrific attack" that left 10 dead and 27 injured.

"Canada is in mourning ," Carney declared, while announcing that federal Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree was heading to the town of Tumbler Ridge, where the incident occurred.

Police say 10 people have been killed, including the suspected shooter, after a gunman opened fire at a high school and an apartment in this small town in western Canada. About 27 others were injured, two of them seriously.

"We will get through this. We will learn from this. Now is the time to come together, as Canadians always do in such terrible situations, to support each other, to mourn together and to move forward together," Carney said.

The Prime Minister also announced that flags on all government buildings will be flown at half-mast for the next seven days, as a sign of mourning.

Authorities have confirmed that the suspected perpetrator is a woman, but have not provided any further details about her identity or motive. It is not yet known how many of the victims are minors. The school in Tumbler Ridge has about 160 students, aged 12 to 18.

Investigations to fully elucidate the incident continue.
