Buckingham Palace has announced that King Charles has been diagnosed with cancer. The diagnosis was revealed recently after Charles underwent prostate surgery.
In a statement to the media, Buckingham Palace stated that the King decided to make the diagnosis public in order to stop rumors about his illness.
" During the king's recent hospital procedure for benign prostatic enlargement, a particularly troubling issue was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer. His majesty has started today a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by the doctors to postpone his duties with the public. Throughout this period, his majesty will continue to deal with state affairs and official documents as usual.
The King is grateful to his medical team for their quick intervention, which was made possible by his recent hospital procedure. He remains completely positive about his treatment and expects to return to full public duty as soon as possible. "His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope that it can help bring public understanding to all those around the world who are affected by cancer ," Buckingham Palace said in its statement.
Buckingham Palace has not released any further details at this stage. It is understood that the diagnosis is not prostate cancer, as some may have mistakenly assumed in light of his separate diagnosis of benign prostatic enlargement.
