Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit Turkey in February.
One of the topics at the center of the discussion between Putin and Turkish head of state Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be the implementation of the agreement between the UN, Moscow, Kiev and Ankara, which was reached in 2022, to allow the export of wheat from Ukraine through a safe corridor in the Black Sea. But this pact ended in 2023, after Russia withdrew, claiming that if its conditions were not met, the agreement would no longer last.
"The wheat corridor is always on Ankara's agenda", Fidan said during a television interview, without specifying the date of the visit, which according to Russian media should be scheduled for February 12.
One of the topics of discussion will be the Russian and Turkish forces in Syria and a cooperation between them.
"The situation in the north of Syria will also be at the center of the discussion between Erdogan and Putin. There is a mechanism for resolving the conflict between our armed forces and the Russian armed forces in Syria. However, this mechanism may not always work as we would like, especially when we plan to carry out an operation in Syria ," said Fidan, underlining that Turkey's priority is to remove Kurdish forces from northern Syria, which Ankara considers terrorists. , and hoping that Russia will consider this position.
