The US Embassy in Jerusalem has notified American citizens in Israel of the possibility of leaving via the land border with Egypt, as Ben Gurion International Airport remains closed to outbound civilian flights due to the ongoing regional conflict.
The bus service is organized by the Israeli Ministry of Tourism and departs from major cities such as Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, taking passengers to the Taba border crossing with Egypt. According to the latest embassy announcements, the buses have specific schedules, including a 10:00 a.m. departure from Jerusalem and Tel Aviv on Thursday (March 5), as well as additional departures in the afternoon.
The embassy emphasizes that it is not able to evacuate or directly assist U.S. citizens in their departure, but is providing information as a means of assistance. It does not make an official recommendation for the use of these buses and warns that the U.S. government cannot guarantee safety along the way.
Registration is done through the Israel Ministry of Tourism form. The US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, has stated on social media and in a video that options are very limited, considering the passage via Taba as the "best option" at present.
He added that Taba could be used for limited flights from local airports or continue to Cairo for international flights. The announcement comes days after the start of major US-Israeli military operations against Iran, which have led to the closure of Israeli airspace and criticism of the State Department for a delayed response to US citizens stranded in the region.
