United States President Donald Trump, in a statement from the Oval Office, stressed that he believes Vladimir Putin is acting like "anybody" and that he wants to reach an agreement to end the war.
At the same time, he stressed that Ukraine is suffering huge losses, but it seemed unclear whether Kiev wants to reach an agreement.
Earlier on Friday, Trump had threatened new sanctions on Russia after Russian forces launched a major offensive in Ukraine. However, inside the Oval Office, he maintained a conciliatory tone toward Vladimir Putin.

He stressed that he considers it easier to reach a final agreement with Moscow than with Kiev, claiming that the Russian president "holds all the cards" in the negotiations.
" I think we're doing very well with Russia, but now they're bombing Ukraine mercilessly. And I'm having a harder time, frankly, negotiating with Kiev because they don't have the cards in their hands. I've always had a good relationship with Putin. I think he wants to end the war. I think he's going to be more generous than he could be and that's probably a good thing. That means a lot of things ," Trump said.
